ISTANBUL -- The death toll in a strong earthquake that hit Turkey's western province of Izmir increased to 25, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD) said on Saturday.

In a written statement, the AFAD announced that a total of 804 people were wounded at the tremor, which struck the Aegean Sea off the Seferihisar district on Friday. (Turkey-Earthquake-Death Toll)

BAGHDAD -- Two children were killed and 28 people injured in a gas pipeline explosion in southern Iraq, the Iraqi military and an oil official said on Saturday.

The incident took place when a gas pipeline detonated near the 44th Brigade of the paramilitary Hashd Shaabi at al-Najmi area in Muthanna province in the south of Baghdad, the media office of the Joint Operations Command (JPC) said in a statement. (Iraq-Gas Pipeline Explosion)

TEHRAN -- Iran's Health Ministry reported 7,820 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising the total nationwide number to 612,772.

The pandemic has so far claimed 34,846 lives in Iran, up by 386 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing. (Iran-COVID-19)

KHARTOUM -- Sudan and U.S. have signed an agreement to restore Sudan's sovereign immunity, said Sudan's Justice Ministry.

"Sudan's government signed a bilateral agreement with the government of the United States on Friday to settle the cases filed against Sudan at U.S. courts, including the bombing of U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam," the ministry said in a statement on its Twitter account Saturday.
