TEHRAN -- The Iranian foreign minister on Thursday dismissed the fresh U.S. attempt at extending a UN arms embargo on Iran.

"Nothing new happens" in the coming days as "the U.S. is not a participant" in the Iranian nuclear deal, internationally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted. (Iran-US-Arms Embargo)

ISTANBUL -- Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal on Thursday urged the world to exert more efforts to carry out effective mediation for the peaceful resolutions of conflicts across the globe amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Today, the need for effective mediation is even greater. The pandemic has further complicated some conflict dynamics," Onal said, addressing the 7th Istanbul Mediation Conference. (Turkey-Mediation Conference)

ADEN -- Clashes erupted between the Houthi rebels and units of the joint pro-government Yemeni forces in the country's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah on Thursday, a military official told Xinhua.

The local military source said on condition of anonymity that "the Houthis carried out two simultaneous armed attacks and targeted sites of the pro-government forces in the northeastern part of Hodeidah." (Yemen-Hodeidah-Clashes)

ISTANBUL -- The Turkish currency dropped to a record low against the U.S. dollar on Thursday, raising concerns of high inflation and unemployment.
