NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks were mixed on Thursday, with the industrial sector making strong gains, while techs eased.
At the close on Thursday, the Dow Jones industrials were ahead 227.88 points or 0.85% at 27,088.08.
The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 6.84 points or 0.23% to 2,999.91.
The Nasdaq Composite conversely slid 6.49 points or 0.08% to 8,196.04.
The U.S. dollar corrected, clawing back some of its losses of the past two days. In late trading in New York Thursday the euro was changing hands at 1.1257.
The British pound eased to 1.2546, while the Japanese yen declined to 108.46.
The Swiss franc slipped to 0.9900. The Canadian dollar, Australian dollar and New Zealand dollar were only slightly down at 1.3063, 0.6974 and 0.6639 respectively.
In Europe, tthe German Dax fell 0.33%, while in Paris, the CAC 40 slipped 0.40%.
In London the FTSE 100 was off 0.28%.
In Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 closed up 110.05 points or 0.51% at 21,643.53.
The Australian All Ordinaries climbed 28.10 points or 0.41% to 6,805.80.
The Shanghai Composite advanced 2.46 points or 0.08% to 2,917.76.
