DUBAI, UAE - Irish man Killian Roche arrived in Dubai in the UAE just two weeks ago to start a new life. He had been appointed head of digital for a media agency serving the MENA region.
His fiancee Emily MacKeogh, a successful model and actress in Ireland, had moved to Dubai as well.
Flash forward two weeks later and Killian's fiancee, family and friends were attending his funeral, or what his family dubbed 'a celebration of life ceremony,' at Dardistown in Dublin.
Within hours of arriving in Dubai at the start of his new journey, Killian was out celebrating at a Dubai hotel when he suddenly collapsed and died. It was Saturday 30 March 2019.
The cause of death of the young man has not been determined but it is understood he suffered a heart attack or died of sudden death syndrome.
"Adored and forever loved by his parents Brian and Christine, sisters Aisling and Niamh, fiancée Emily MacKeogh, best pal Zeb, grandparents Mathew and Marjorie Roche, grandmother Maureen Gorman and his deceased grandad Christopher Gorman, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family friends and colleagues," said a notice on RIP.ie.
Killian's family proposed in lieu of flowers that friends donate to Doctors Without Borders and the Kevin Bell Trust (which assists Irish families repatriate loved ones who have died overseas).
"You made me the happiest I’ve ever been, every second of every day," Killian's fiancee Emily MacKeogh posted on her Instagram page.
"You were the better half of my whole, my best friend, my rock, the most intelligent, handsome, funny and loving person I have ever met!"
"I’m never going to stop loving you and I want everyone to know just how amazing you were," she added.
Killian was educated at Rockwell College in Tipperary.
